If you’re anywhere near as confused by English as I am by math, I can relate to what you’re going through! What I lack in my aptitude with numbers, I more than make up for in my verbal ability. And I’ve developed the skills as an educator to help transfer some of my knowledge onto you, so that your grades will improve. I’m a college writing instructor with background as an English Language Arts teacher in the NYC schools. I also do private tutoring in one-on-one or small groups. I have a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English and I’ve done additional coursework in psychology. At your request, I can provide you additional details from my CV. I’m here to help students of varying proficiencies and diverse populations, by using a holistic approach to tutoring. This means that part of helping you with English is determining outside factors that affect your performance, such as lack of sleep, fear of failure, time management issues, etc. I’m patient and sensitive to each student’s needs. As we get work done, you may even find our sessions fun! It’s usually easier to learn when you feel confident and at ease. We’ll take manageable steps to improve your grades, test scores &/or fluency in English. I look forward to helping you meet your goals. A note about scheduling: My exact availability may vary semester to semester, but I am here to meet your scheduling needs for face-to-face or remote tutoring. In particular, there is almost no limit to when I can work with you by phone, email, Skype, etc. P.S. I encourage you to investigate any free tutoring services available through your school. Hobbies
Reading and writing are a huge part of my life. I'm always in the middle of reading a book, ideally a page turner, and I'm always engaged in a personal writing project, whether it's drafting a lesson for an online class, writing a poem, or polishing the novel for which I'm seeking a literary agent. Other hobbies I enjoy are yoga, cooking, gardening, karaoke, watching movies and listening to music. Lastly, being a mom keeps me busy in a good way!
